How can I manage long project and task lists for performance and ease of use on timesheets?
Long lists (i.e., 10,000+ projects) on timesheets and other administrative screens can make screens slow to load and cause difficulty for employees when trying to make selections. The Timesheet system includes a setting for automatically changing fields to "search only" when the number of items in the field exceeds the limit designated in the setting. Under Configuration → System Settings → Screen Appearance, system administrators can choose a number for the "Maximum number of items in a selection drop down." setting.
When lists in drop down menus or select boxes exceed this number, they are converted to search fields that require users to enter specific parameters for selecting items. In addition to the System Setting, employees may also choose to reduce the number further by changing the same setting under Preferences → Entry Screens. The number under Preferences may be lower than the one designated under system Settings, but an employee may not choose a number that is higher.
Update - In Timesheet, what is the procedure for handling an employee who is leaving my company?
In previous versions of Timesheet, deactivating employees was a 3-step process. In the latest version of Timesheet, however, it is now possible to deactivate an employee who is leaving the company in a single step. You can deactivate an employee in one of two ways:
- Select the employee under Management → Users → User Management and click on the Deactivate button. This will immediately terminate the user's access to the system.
- Click on the employee's name to modify the user profile and enter an Employee End Date. The end date should be the last day on which the user needs to login and add new records.
Deactivating users blocks them from logging into the system. It also stops all their automated system notifications. However, the users' configuration settings and group memberships are maintained. This ensures that the appropriate managers can still approve and report on former employee information, and it makes it easy to reactivate returning employees.
