How Journyx Projectlink Works: An Overview
MSP organizes projects into a hierarchy of Summary Tasks and Loggable Tasks. Each Task can be assigned to a number of Resources in order to create one or more Assignments. In Timesheet, Tasks are represented as Projects, Resources are represented as Users, and Task Assignments are represented as Groups.
| Microsoft Project | Journyx Timesheet | |
|---|---|---|
| Tasks | = | Projects |
| Resources | = | Users |
| Assignments | = | Groups |
The first time you export data from MSP, data from each MSP Project or .mpp file is used to create corresponding entries in Timesheet. During synchronization, Timesheet creates new Timesheet Groups and Projects with the same name as the .mpp file. Summary and Loggable Tasks added from MSP maintain their hierarchy in Timesheet. Timesheet Project status (determines whether a Project is open for logging time) is controlled by the date of data transfer and the Task schedule defined in MSP. MSP is the authoritative source for Tasks.
Resources added to Timesheet will be added as Users in another Group for all MSP Resources. The "Text30" field on the MSP Resource Sheet will determine each Timesheet User's login name. The"Text29" field can be used to assign both default and customizable roles in Timesheet. Everything is organized into groups to make managing what could be a very large number of Tasks and Resources much easier. MSP is the authoritative source for Resources, their login names, and their authority levels in Timesheet.
When the initial synchronization is complete, Timesheet will have a tree of hierarchical Projects that correspond to the tree of Tasks in MSP. All the Resources defined in MSP with valid Timesheet logins in the text30 field will be Users in Timesheet, so they can log in and enter time from any location. Task Assignments from MSP are essentially invisible to the Timesheet User, but they directly control what the User can and cannot see. Timesheet is the authoritative source for all actual hours worked.
